Passing the Test of Adversity
Posted: 6/21/2009

Everyone has encountered adversity, some more than others, it is a situation that many would consider a blessing in disguise. Adversity appears in different elements, it can surface through health, relationships, or work.  During this time the universe is testing us, it is preparing us for the next step in our lives.  Our attitude in this timeframe is essential.  It is a difficult time but maintaining a positive attitude and embracing the lesson that the universe is teaching us will lead to a wonderful outcome. When it is all over we are stronger, wiser, and discovered a new aspect of ourselves.

When adversity appears, it comes as a shock to some and to others we probably felt it coming but decided to ignore the signals.  Either way, the universe is testing our character, strength, and determination.  The following are a few tips to assist us in passing the test of adversity.

1. Meditation or Quiet Time: If we sit still and maintain a spiritual conscious by taking time out to reflect the answers will come.

2. Find your support group: Friends and family are important to have around. During times of adversity is a true test of friendship.

3. Stay positive: This is easier said than done, but your optimism will go a long way. It is our attitude that determines the outcome in any situation.

4. Give thanks: Although this is a difficult time, remember you are building strength and character. Thank the universe for the lessons you are encountering so you can learn and grow.

5. Never loose sight of the bigger picture:  Every thing happens for a reason.  Even if things are at a standstill the earth is still rotating and you are still breathing.  Baby steps are better than no steps at all. In your meditation think of goals you want to accomplish and write them down.  By acknowledging what you want, and how you are going to pursue it, it is already manifesting because you have put it in the universe.

When the test is all over and the lesson is learned, we are renewed, wiser and stronger.  I leave you with a quote by Henry Ward Beecher, that one of my mentors shared with me; "Affliction comes to us all not to make us sad, but sober; not to make us sorry, but wise; not to make us despondent but by its darkness to refresh us, as the night refreshes the day; not to impoverish, but to enrich us, as the plough enriches the field; to multiply our joy, as the seed, by planting, is multiplied a thousand fold.”
