Addressing the Pink Elephant in the Room
Posted: 8/11/2008

For starters, this will not be a blog about Kwame. He is not worth my time. However, I have to address the pink elephant in the room by asking, now what?? While the rest of the world celebrates their origins with the Olympics, we are questioning our fate. Can we recover? If we recover, when will we begin to feel the impact? How much further will we go??

The entire state is impacted.

Bobby and I went to Gilbert’s Lodge, a neighborhood bar in St. Clair Shores on Saturday after watching the movie, Pineapple Express. We have gone there several times before but Saturday really sucked!! When we walked in, it was like a movie from the 50’s. It seemed like the music stopped playing and all of the lights came on because there was a special news update with Kwame all over the screens in the bar. This was the first time that I noticed that we were the only Black people! We took a few seats around the bar and felt very uncomfortable. The super old guy next to Bobby didn’t say anything but the drunk guy next to me had a lot to say…I was able to completely control the flow of the conversation and forced him to understand that this is NOT an issue of race. This is an issue of ethics and its time for us to deal with the real issue.

Let’s take it back to the SAT’s…

Kwame does not represent every Detroiter as:

a.) Bush does not represent every American.
b.) Oprah does not represent every Woman.
c.) Madonna does not represent every 50 year old.

To sum it up, Detroiters don’t allow Kwame to bring you in his mess. Keep your heads up. We have a lot to be proud of…Let’s continue to gain momentum
