I'm Just Saying...Wedding Advice
Posted: 8/18/2008
Monday is here and I’m exhausted! My weekend began last Thursday with a bachelorette party and did not end until late Sunday night. You have to ask yourself sometimes, am I crazy???
I attended two weddings this weekend. The first was for my best friends, Xenas and Joe. The couple spent a lot of time on the details, which made the day that much more enjoyable!

We also attended the public wedding of Detroit musician, Thornetta Davis on Sunday. It was held on the main stage during the African World Festival. I had never attended anything like this! There were several musical guests, including the artist Kem, who blew the crowd away! I felt like a spectator in a Grecian stadium. I have never met Thornetta, but I felt welcomed and amongst friends. During the ceremony when the minister asked, “and who gives her away?” it was like the entire city of Detroit said, “we do!!” That was a truly memorable moment.

As our annual Wedding Issue begins to come to an end, I would like to make a few suggestions to any brides who are in the process of planning a wedding:
- All of the bridezilla-like behavior is really not cute. It makes for great tv but it does not make for a good life. Your close friends and family want to be apart of your special day. Don’t ruin relationships over a course of a year that took several years to cultivate.
- Stop lying! You know that you do not plan to keep the weight off after you get married so quit with the deceit!! Work out before the wedding and try to maintain it throughout the relationship.
- Don’t loose yourself. Weddings represent the coming together but does not require loosing your individuality. Remember, this is probably one of the main reasons why your mate chose you in the first place.
- Make sure you spend time planning the relationship and the wedding. The statistics are not in favor of couples staying together and it sucks! Take the time to ask the difficult questions before you commit to marriage. Talk about: finances, kids, in-laws, future plans, religion, politics and etc. You owe yourself!!
- Most importantly, if you think its funny to choose ugly bridesmaids dresses, you are sick and you should know there is probably a special place in hell reserved for you and your kind!!
