Inside Look with Brett Berk, Detroit Native & Vanity Fair Car Blogger

With the economic crisis plaguing the country, Detroit definitely took a hard hit. Despite the uphill battle the city is undergoing, Detroit is taking center stage as the worldwide spotlight in automotive news.

Over 4,000 journalists applied for credentials for this crème de la crème of auto shows. Indeed this spectacle takes the cake, but it was even a bigger treat for weekly Vanity Fair car blogger, Brett Berk.

Berk, a Detroit native, had only one thing in mind while coming to Detroit: Vernors.
He joked, “You can’t find Vernors in the [New York] city.”  He later mentioned that he misses his extended family that is still living in Detroit.

Berk is not your typical writer. His weekly entries are blunt, animated and does not fit the traditional mode of Vanity Fair magazine.  “Well it’s humorous and smurky but also informative and that’s how I write just about everything,” he said.

In attendance with his videographer, some of Berk’s auto show highlights included the electric Cadillac Converj concept car and the new Ford Taurus.  Berk said, “The Big 3 really had some exciting things and I’m really excited in the direction that they are taking.”
 

Aside from writing about cars, he has a strong education background. Berk worked as a pre-school teacher, pre-school director, and a consultant for kids’ media and toys. He’s also a fiction writing professor at The New School in New York. In addition, he is also the author of “The Gay Uncle’s Guide to Parenting”.
