Inside Look: Lori Pinson of First Forecast Mornings (WWJ-TV)
Posted: 6/7/2009

How long have you been a meteorologist?

“I developed a love for science and weather during the harsh Michigan winters of my childhood. You know those photos where you see cars buried under snow, yet you still have to go to school? I was the kid who constantly asked my parents ‘why?’ Armed with a good education, I can now answer those questions and provide that knowledge to our viewers. In all, I've been in the business more than 15 years.”

What is it about your job that makes it so interesting?

“It’s always different. I’m responsible for the look and content of my weathercasts. On First Forecast Mornings on WWJ-TV, we step outside the norm, bringing you more weather and traffic than news. I take that responsibility seriously, so I do my own forecast and illustrate it by creating original graphics. First Forecast Mornings is fun; we keep it light while providing viewers with the information they requested (more weather and traffic) to start their day. Plus, Detroit is home for me, so that makes working here extra special.”

What do you think about Detroit's fashion scene?

“Detroiters have such a diverse style; from tailored to relaxed, everyone is rocking their own look. I see sophistication, originality and classic style everywhere, much like I did growing up here!”

What do you typically wear to work?

“On camera, I favor fitted suits or separates.”

Describe your personal style:

“Tailored, but fun. I love bright colors and textures. Even if I’m wearing black, navy or chestnut, I like to pop it with color. And accessories! Love highlighting an outfit with jewelry or a cool purse.”

What should every lady have in her closet for the upcoming summer?

“For summer, I look forward to wearing fitted white jeans with heels. You can dress this look up or down, depending on if you add a jacket, sweater, tee or blouse. I also like the cute full skirts with a fitted sweater or shirt. This look works for everyone; it’s so clean and breezy.”

What are your favorite types of shoes and why?

“Despite the fact that I am about 6’1”, I love heels with pointy toes.”

What brand of make-up do you recommend that every lady should have?

“I like the eye colors from MAC. So versatile and you can be as bold or smoky with color as you dare.”

What is your favorite season and why? What do you typically wear during this season?

“Each season brings its own challenge forecast wise and carries its own distinct beauty. For that reason, it’s difficult to choose one, especially fashion wise. I love the fall with its changing colors and layering of clothes with boots. By contrast, I look forward to spring and summer for the lighter fashions. In winter, I combat the stark cold with warm, bright colors or winter white.”

Should weather affect a lady's style? Shouldn't we be fabulous all the time, rain or shine?

“The second question pretty much answers the first. Of course, we can be fabulous and glamorous anytime with the right prep. Even if it’s raining, no need to be drab. Update your trench in a bright color, like red or hot pink.”

I had the pleasure to work around Lori. She is a wonderful person full of positive vibes and kindness. She loves science and weather and she is passionately good at what she does. Age has been her good friend as we have deteriorated, Lori is looking better and better. Too funny reading these posts as the first thing you'll notice about her is her legs and stature. She will always have the best pair of legs in any room. Sorry Lori but I have to remain anonymous on this post. All the best.
