Spanning across The United States of America, a tumultuous financial climate has cast an ominous cloud over the entire nation. Standing squarely at center stage of the economic downturn appears Michigan; namely the Detroit Metropolitan area. Residence of the automotive Big Three, the Detroit image has routinely received its fair share of punishment from the media. Its spirit, seemingly stripped down to the bare metal frame and deserted on four cinder blocks. Desolate. Dismal. Discouraged. Robert Biederman does not agree. As a matter of fact, Mr. Biederman could not disagree more. Devoted. Determined. Driven. This is how Mr. Biederman views the greater Metro Detroit area.

Drawing inspiration from Detroit sports teams from the 1980s and 1990s, Biederman has captured the essence of Detroit sports and transferred its spirit into his new clothing line Mighty Detroit. Biederman has revamped that old gritty Detroit sports style and given birth to a new line of classic tee shirts reminiscent of the tees we sported when Bill Laimbeer & Rick Mahorn were the original Bad Boys. Or when Steve Yzerman skated the ice as "The Captain". Or when Al Ackerman implored us to yell, "Bless you boys."; as Sparky Anderson guided The Tigers to the World Series title. Biederman is also motivated by something else. Currently residing in New York, this West Bloomfield native strives to showcase his hometown pride wherever he goes. Amazed to meet fellow native Detroiters everywhere, Biederman proudly wants to represent Detroit in a positive light. He wants the world to realize how resilient Detroit is, how resolved Detroit is, and how mighty Detroit is!

This is a very commendable action for the aspiring "sneakerhead". " Sneakers are probably something I could not live without in my closet.", says Biederman. A lover of sneakers, Biederman is utilizing his exposure to the big lights & high fashion of New York City to explore different avenues of expanding Mighty Detroit. "I have always been a sneaker person. It is amazing how you can transform a mundane object and turn it into a fascinating piece of art.", says Biederman. He often frequents sneaker stores, skateboard businesses, and street wear boutiques to draw ideas for his own line. Eventually, he would like to expand to hats, sweatshirts, and jeans. However, make no mistake about it; his true inspiration is Detroit sports. Biederman says, "If I could dress or choose a face for Mighty Detroit, it would be Curtis Granderson because of his friendly nature and sense of community. Another would be Chris Chelios because he represents that blue collar & resilient spirit that I love about Detroit."
Community. Fortitude. Family. Hard working. "If it ain't rough, it ain't right.", says Biederman. Invoking a mantra coined by Rip Hamilton, Mighty Detroit is grounded on the fundamentals of strong work ethic, strong teamwork, and undeniable pride. He is striving to spread the good news. Forget what you view on the television set. Down, but definitely not out. Not by a long shot. With entrepreneurs like Robert Biederman looking to revive local business and revive our community, I have no doubt that Metro Detroit & Michigan will be at the forefront of innovative and inspirational business venture. And why not? We are of course, Mighty Detroit.
