What modern jewelry do you admire?

Why should a lady indulge in the art and nostalgia of jewelry? Why should she shop at Treasures of Time?

“A lady would want to indulge herself in the art of nostalgia simply because it is a classic yet contemporary way of presenting herself. Each woman has her own distinct style and my vintage designs allow her to express that style. Treasures of Time makes that easy for her. The beauty of investing in Treasures of Time is the satisfaction knowing you are the only person that has that necklace because all the designs are one of a kind!  Everybody wants to be unique, don't you think?”

What made you a fan of vintage jewelry?

“Oh my gosh, since I was a small girl, I have had the fascination for jewelry. I would often go into my mom's jewelry box and redesign her pieces. I would take her brooches, necklaces and earrings and combine them to make an entirely new piece.  As I got older, I came to appreciate the quality of the vintage designs. They sparkled more than the designs of today and most of the time; they were handmade, which made them even more special to me. That adds such a charm to each vintage design. The quality of materials used was higher than what is used now. Plus, the people that made each piece were proud of what they did as I am. Take a look at some of my designs! Some of them are 50 to 100 years old and they still look like they were brand new. They are a true test of time and I know my ‘treasures’ will stand that same test of time.”

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say I am a classic dresser who loves to add that "zing" with accessories. I feel it's all about accessorizing. Some of today's fashions are just over done. There are 10 of the same thing on the rack so you have to bring your own style to it. I love being different and Treasures of Time allows me to be different. I love color! It makes me happy. Colors that are cheerful set a mood for the entire day. Yes, I do have my basic black, but I always jazz it up with something fun. You'll find me in dresses mostly in the summer and always with a hat. Dresses make me feel feminine, flirty.

What modern jewelry do you admire?

“There are so many wonderful designers out now. I have a couple of favorites. One is Rodrigo Otazu. He uses a lot of color and mixes shapes, which I love to do. The other one is Tom Binns.”

What is the number one problem that ladies encounter when wearing vintage jewelry?

There really is not any problem wearing vintage jewelry. I offer so many different types of designs. I have both classic and simplicity to large and sparkly. I call those designs the WOW factors.  All of my clients love the uniqueness of my designs. I am always getting calls saying how my clients get stopped by strangers, both men and women, complimenting their Treasures of Time and asking where to find one. I guess if there were a problem, it would be that lady who is afraid to step out of her comfort zone into a special design.

What are your suggestions for ladies who are picking out vintage pieces, especially for elegant events like a wedding?

That's a tough one. I say just go with your heart. Usually, the necklace picks you. Each design seems to call out to that person and when you put it on, it takes a new life!  I have introduced a new line of Bridal Jewelry that I love! My first bridal design was for my own wedding- a 1920's Victorian cameo with four strands of fresh water pearls. I made my attendants their own necklaces using fresh water pearls and rhinestone pendants that fit each of their personalities.  This spurred my new line. My designs make the bride feel like a princess, very special, glamorous and elegant. When you are choosing a Treasure of Time for your wedding, I feel you really should follow your heart. Some women love large pieces and those are best with a simple gown where as the bride with the elaborate gown needs to go with something a bit simpler. I have something for everyone.

What type of jewels do you use in your pieces?

I use only the finest components to make my jewelry. I use fresh water pearls, semi-precious gemstones, Swarovski crystals, and Czechoslovakian crystals just to name a few. I think it's very important to preserve the integrity of the vintage piece, so it makes sense to only use the best materials. I use toggles as my closures because they are easier to get on and off.

What should jewelry admirers expect at your trunk show on June 30th?

“My trunk show at the Oxford Inn in Royal Oak will be a fun night out for the girls to come see some gorgeous jewelry. Life has gotten so busy that we don't spend time with our friends so this is a great excuse to get together, have some great food and see some amazing jewelry. This is also the introduction of my new Bridal line. I am excited to see everyone and hear what special requests there might be. I am always open to new things. I am truly looking forward to the 30th.”

Who is your style icon and why?

“Hands down, it's Audrey Hepburn. Her style and grace transcends to every generation. Her beauty was both casual to real glamour. I love everything about her! She even looked good in just a plain white shirt and slacks doing her philanthropic things and of course in her signature couture gowns. I could easily see my designs on her. A classic beauty in and out!”

How did you get involved in this industry and why did you stick with it?

“My love of jewelry - every kind of jewelry - got me involved in this industry. I love what I do, every part of it! Not many people can say that. I enjoy the road trips with my husband Tommy on the hunt for my next vintage treasure. I get excited again when I get home in my studio and start the creativity of putting the right beads and components together to make it a Treasure of Time. I am able to express my love for jewelry every day in my studio... what more can a girl ask for?”
