Dancin’ in the Reign - Cirque 2008
Saturday marked the 8th annual Cirque masquerade ball put on by The Founders Junior Council of the DIA. It was an evening to flash back to the era of men wearing white wigs and makeup to be frivolous. Women surrendering all rights to their body to fit in to the overpowering corsets and gowns that were embellished with niches of lace, ribbons and ruffles. I gave a hefty courtesy to the Colony Club on Park Ave because it was successfully transformed into a “Mini Me” of the Palace of Versailles. Those in attendance donned some of the best formal attire that was dangerously impressive; meanwhile my 'freelance writer dress' was dangerously cheap and found it in a friend’s closet, but it was black so it worked! Perhaps it was the hidden identities from the masques that sparked mystery into the evening or it was the endless amounts of cocktails at the open bars that lead the Antoinette-alikes to twirl on the large ballroom dance floor to the spinning of DJ Mike Anthony. The affair was definitely the hot spot to be for those 20-30 something singles. It was a who’s who drama ball (well sort of due to the covert mask sophistication) in the downtown Detroit area. Some partiers followed the themed costume idea whereas others used their creativity to turn their gown into an haute couture masterpiece. Men opted for the classic tuxedo, which is always a timeless style. But I can’t forget the overwhelmingly large hairdo's that were created by 6 Salon. This night was a perfect opportunity for me to see what Detroit really has to offer in the higher-end fashion motif. No, it wasn’t Paris, but so many well-dressed beings in a concentrated room was amazing. It’s not everyday you go to a social gathering and you find yourself NOT passing “party foul tickets” out in your head. With all of these key ingredients, Detroit wasn’t about to be-headed for a poor party and fashion performance, nothing was going to reign on its parade! Style Profiles -Marie Antoinette was the last queen in France responsible for setting the fashions; her word was law to all the ladies of that day…lets see whose elegant ensemble took the cake- Jennifer Isso, Grosse Pointe Donna Tracey, Troy Judy Eliyas, Ferndale Amy Kalaczynski, Birmingham (right) Linda Leonard, Grosse Pointe David Gorosh, Detroit Who needs Halloween when you can dress up like a queen?
