DFP Bids Farewell to Fashion Icon Yves Saint Laurent
Posted: 6/5/2008

Last Sunday, the fashion world bid farewell to noted fashion icon and last of the great 20th century French designers, Yves Saint Laurent, who died at the age of 71.

Born in Oran, Algeria, Yves Saint Laurent was noted for several things throughout his career including:

  • Founded modern fashion for women
  • Created imaginative runway shows
  • Introduced the fashion world to black models on the runway
  • Called for the ‘democratization of fashion’ through his Rive Gauche line

He took the necessary risks that elevated the overall fashion world, which created many opportunities for several different types of people, like the people behind www.DetroitFashionPages.com.

This lifelong rival of Lagerfeld took over as haute couture designer at Dior at the age of 21 and was able to maintain his longevity as a designer, even up to his retirement in 2002, when he went into seclusion.

Join DFP as we honor Yves Saint Laurent and all of his contributions to the fashion world.
