Dancing in the “D” with Arthur Murray Studios
Arthur Murray Dance Studios have always recognized how music and dancing go hand in hand. The founder, Arthur Murray himself, wanted to make sure that his students would have live music to dance to and worked out a deal with a local university to get live music broadcasted into his studios. This is one of the earliest examples of music being broadcasted for public use. Jim Everley, owner of several Arthur Murray studios including the Sterling Heights studio, explained that “students learn about lots of different kinds of music” and even “more about their own music” by taking lessons. When the reasoning for listening changes so does the way the music is being viewed by the listener, Jim described that it allows students to “expand their other horizons” because they are listening for what they can dance to. Dance lessons may just help the music lover have a whole new appreciation for their collection as they hear it with the ears of a dancer and not just a music aficionado. If you aren’t sure about whether or not you will really enjoy the experience Arthur Murray offers an opportunity to, as Jim calls it, “try it before you buy it” with a free lesson. The lessons can offer a sampling of several dance styles or can focus on one particular style; it all depends on what the client is looking to get from the experience. The long hours and weekend times make it very friendly for working couples as well, the Sterling Heights office is open from 1p.m until 10p.m and then on Saturday by appointment.
