Young Jeezy
If you have heard the phrases, “Chea!” or “Haha!”, then you have heard a song or two from the Def Jam and Platinum recording artist, Young Jeezy. He kicked off his three-week promotional tour for his third album, "The Recession,”. The Atlanta rapper made his fourth stop in the Motor City to give his fellow fans a preview of his upcoming album at a private listening party in the posh Woodward restaurant and lounge. According to the Def Jam website, Young Jeezy explained the name and concept behind this album. "I went from 'Thug Motivation' to 'The Inspiration' and [now] 'The Recession', and that's just how I'm feeling, I'm feeling the recession. I'm feeling the drought and I'm gonna speak on it. And when I speak on it you're gonna appreciate it," he said. This was an invite-only party; Jeezy requested the guests to wear black to reflect the tone of the album. Most known for his club hits, Jeezy takes a swift turn towards more socio-economic messages such as endorsing Senator Barack Obama and encouraging blue-collar workers to cope with tough economic times and other real world situations on this 18-track set. The title track, "The Recession," starts with a woman complaining about the high price of gas. Young Jeezy comes in rapping, "Wish I had me some money/I'd buy better luck." The track "Crazy World" spoke about Jeezy's dying aunt and his attempts to help her get a kidney transplant. Jeezy also dished on his idea of a perfect leader in the track "My President's Black." The highlight of the album and is also slowly becoming a fan favorite is the track,“Circulate" produced by Don Cannon. This soul track is driven by horns and Motown era drums. Def Jam Artist Development Rep, Talibah Fogel agrees with the majority. “It includes a sample of Steve Spacek's song "Dollar" and was used by our own J. Dilla. I think lots of people loved that song,” she said. Set to release on September 2, the album features guest appearances by Akon, T.I., Jay Z, Kanye West, The Game, T-Pain, and Young Dro. -Asia Willis
